2025 Events

01-14-25   -    Our guest speakers from Evesham Township Fire District presented on Household Fire Safety measures, focusing on home fire escape planning, smoke alarms, smoke alarm placement and testing, carbon monoxide alarms, cooking safety, general fire safety measures, wildfire prevention measures and use of fire extinguishers.

Very informative presentation especially in light of the current California fires causing so much havoc.

02-11-25   -   Bob Maruvada and his partner Nick Crippen were our presenters.  Bob updated us on the latest tax laws and Nick discussed Roth IRA conversions, when the best time to do them, what amount is right for you, and how this can affect your Medicare.

 

03-11-25   -   Jatinbhai Mehta gave a spiritual talk on how to make life memorable after 60+. Jatinbhai is a devoted volunteer, he coordinates regional efforts and shares his spiritual knowledge of the Hindu Sanatan Dharma through lectures at local mandirs.  Jatinbhai's life is a testament to the power of education, service, and community, inspiring us all to make a meaningful difference.  

04-08-25  -  Dr. Nigam Patel from Advocate Arthritis Osteoporosis & Rheumatology Associates spoke on Osteoporosis and Lifestyle Modifications for Arthritis.  His interests include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Gout, Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Vasculitis.  He has contributed to Rheumatoid Arthritis and Scleroderma research and advocates for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in diagnostics and procedures. 

04-22-25. -  Chandan Modi took the stage as the sole vocalist, accompanied by a tabla player.  The program featured a mix of his favorite ghazals, Bollywood songs, bhajan and even a few karaoke renditions, providing a diverse and enjoyable selection or our entertainment.

05-13-25  -  Dr. Arun Kachroo spoke on Strokes & Neuropathy as it relates to Seniors.  Dr. Kachroo was born in New Delhi in 1967 and moved to the U.S. in 1971.  He joined Neurology Associates of South Jersey, where he has been practicing since 1999. 

05-21-25  -  Day trip to Tropicana Casino, Atlantic City - Members had a wonderful time enjoying the casino experience and socializing.  A surprise stop at BAPS Mandir in Galloway added to the delight where everyone was warmly treated to Darshan, thereafter masala chai, poha & cookies. A special thanks to Dahyabhai Patel for organizing this surprise stopover.

05-27-25  -  Dr. Jatin Mehta spoke on Empowering Seniors with Artificial Intelligence (AI).  He highlighted the need for AI tools that are senior-friendly, easy to use, and inclusive.

Jatinbhai also highlighted how AI can shape a more connected, empowered future for our Seniors.  Members truly enjoyed the hands-on experience, finding it both engaging and enriching.

06-10-25. -  Dr. Anju Nayar will be presenting on the Psychological Challenges of Senior Citizens of Indian Origin. She is a board-certified psychiatrist in clinical practice for over 30 years in Cherry Hill and now in Moorestown New Jersey.  Dr. Nayar attended LLRM Medical College in Meerut, UP India and completed her psychiatric training at Cooper Hospital & Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. In addition to psychiatry, she is a certified hypnotherapist. 

06-18-25  -  Day trip to Amish Village & Strasburg Railroad, Ronks, PA.  We enjoyed a 45 minute train ride in an Open Car and enjoyed looking out on the beauty of the farms.  On the way back, we flipped the seats so we could look forward the entire journey.  The pavilion lunch of Bhel, Dahi Wada & Halwa sponsored by the members topped the day.  Amish Village provided a 25-minute guided farmhouse tour. A Step on Guide provided a 90-minute back roads bus tour off the beaten path, past working farms and along country roads where buggies rolled along and farmers worked in their fields.  We also stopped at Down on the Farms and enjoyed the delicious homemade Amish ice-cream using fresh ingredients.

06-24-25. -  Dr. Yajamana Ramu who holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences spoke on “Cloning and Related Ethical Issues,” covering the science behind cloning, its medical and agricultural uses, and the ethical implications. Dr. Ramu combines deep technical knowledge with a strong commitment to education and ethics.

 


 

07-08-25  -  Dr. Abhijeet Rastogi, a double board-certified physician in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, spoke on Back Pain: New Treatments for Old Problems. He is widely recognized for his expertise in interventional spine and pain management.  He serves as Chairman of the Yard Education Foundation to inspire STEM learning in youth. 

07-27-25  -  The annual HSCSj picnic at the Red Bank Park, National Park, NJ was a wonderful event on a warm, humid day. Guests enjoyed an endless variety of delicious food, impressive karaoke performances, and a surprise grand finale - Mr. Softee ice cream. A total of 91 seniors lined up at the ice cream truck, where David, the friendly driver, served them sweet treats. 

08-12-25  -  Dr. Prasad Acharya spoke about the Basics of Kidney Disease.  Dr. Acharya, who earned his Nephrology degree at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has been practicing at the Center for Kidney Care where he provides expert care to patients with kidney disease since 2003.    

08-20-25  -  Day Trip to Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Tanger Outlets & Mahalakshmi Devasthanam Hindu Temple (DE).  Our trip on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry was a great success!  We were fortunate to enjoy cloudy but dry skies.  The ferry ride was smooth and enjoyable, and our packed lunch - Wawa hoagies with chips, cookies, and soda - was a big hit.  Shopping at Tanger Outlets added to the fun.  We were then blessed with a visit to the Mahalakshmi Devasthanam Temple, followed by a lavish dinner at Honest Restaurant in Wilmington, DE before returning to ICC.

08-26-25  -  Musical evening by Sital Nanavaty and Harini Desai.  Sital & Harini enchanted the audience with a selection of solos and duets spanning across various musical eras.

09-09-25  -  Dr. Ekta Patel, an Ophthalmologist, Cataract Surgeon, and Cornea Specialist at Eye Associates & SurgiCenter presented on The Aging Eye.  Dr. Patel specializes in advanced cataract surgery - including droplets, IV-free techniques - and offers intraocular lenses IIOLs) to reduce dependence on glasses.  She also treats complex corneal conditions, performs corneal transplants, and offers Blameless LASIK.

09-10-25  -  9/19/25  ICELAND BONANZA - The group returned from their incredible 10-day journey through the majestic beauty of Iceland.  From glaciers and waterfalls to lava fields, lagoons, ice caves and the unforgettable Northern Lights - Iceland was amazing at every turn.  But what truly made the trip special was the spirit, cooperation, and positivity each member brought along.  It was heartening to see the care and respect shown within the group - it made it much easier and much more meaningful.  

09-23-25  -  Julianna Jarvis, PA-C is a board-certified Physician Assistant who spoke on Dermatology for Seniors: Practical Tips for Healthy Skin.  She covered aging skin, sun protection, skin cancer and treatment, benign growths and common skin issues with simple over-the-counter remedies, and signs when to see a dermatologist.  

10-19-25  -  Diwali Function - This year, by popular demand, we refreshed our theme from Seniors Got Talent to Talented Seniors.  Once again, our very own seniors captivated us with their incredible performances!  Their outstanding talent, unwavering dedication, and  countless hours of preparation resulted in a truly remarkable show.  Glowing reviews from members reflected just how deeply impressed and moved everyone was by their performance.

10-28-25  -  Mr. Alan Gudis of BGA Insurance group returned with Medicare 2026 updates.  Alan walked us through these changes, explained how they will affect us, and offer practical guidance to help us make the most of our benefits.  The presentation was followed by Q&A.

11-11-25  - Dr. Sameer Khandhar spoke on the 3 most common heart conditions as we age, including aortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation, and coronary artery disease.  Dr, Khandhar is the current chief of Cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center and oversees 55 cardiologists at 15 different practice locations.  The presentation was followed by an excellent Q&A.
